Conner O’Malley has a YouTube channel. And it’s a treasure trove. He will also be performing at the CB Live this April 16th!
“Rebranded Mickey Mouse”
This week I was delighted to stumble upon O’Malley’s inventive nearly 10 minute long short film, “Rebranded Mickey Mouse,” that friend and collaborator Tim Robinson posted to his instagram story.
O’Malley crawls around in the woods with mouse ears, a muscle suit and black paint smeared all across his face with dreams of a darker, more subversive take on classic Disney character.
He’s got a point. Honestly, every show reboot we keep hearing about has opted for a darker spin, whether that’s Bel-Air or Riverdale, television executives can’t seem to shake the desire to darken household names.
So when a panicked “Mick,” tells investigators his pitch that his new universe for classic Disney characters would be comparable to the HBO hit show Euphoria, listen man, I get where he’s coming from.
In O’Malley fashion the sketch spirals out of control from a 5 month-long character study deep in the woods, to a state ordered execution and nuclear warfare.
You may know O’Malley from acting alongside Tim Robinson’s madness on the cult favorite Netflix sketch series, “I Think You Should Leave.”
He’s convinced a Laser Spine Specialists patient to continue pursuing his dreams of musical stardom, with reassuring lines like, “It’s a guaranteed goddamn hit!” or “We’re gonna fly Jeff Chris down from Indiana, to mix it professionally!” (I’ve timestamped the sketch below for more context lol)
If you haven’t watched the series yet, I highly recommend it.
O’Malley has also written for Late Night with Seth Meyers, acted on Comedy Central’s Detroiters and written and co-starred on Joe Pera Talks with You on Adult Swim. Fun fact, he’s also married to the wonderfully talented Arizona native and SNL star Aidy Bryant.
I’m so glad I found O’Malley’s YouTube channel this week.
I think we’d all like to put down our devices and travel back to simpler times like how he feels in “Irish Mob.”
Or escape our uncool computers and enter the Endorphin Port.
O’Malley will be performing at the CB Live this April 16th in a show I can only imagine will be unlike anything I’ve seen this year.
